Toronto, Canada – Award winning company XMG Studio today announced the launch of its new space age iPhone game, Cannon Cadets. This physics based application will have you rocketing your way through its visually stunning and equally challenging levels as you fight to free fellow cadets, all in the name of fun.

As Cannon Cadets hero Rocketboy, you will battle the evil lab monkey Gordo by launching yourself and your team of cadets through crazy structures at his evil robot army . Determined to rid the galaxy of fun, they have locked up your fellow cadets and it is your duty to release them from the clutches of their robot guardians.

Saving your fellow cadets won’t be as simple launching yourself into the robot stronghold. You must strategically project yourself into structures ranging from simple to complex constructions that include rolls, slides and hinges. Each new level is sure to provide challenges to children and adults alike as you fight to destroy the robots and release your friends.

If You Build It, THEY Will Come…

The popularity of Customization in games has soared since the early days of the video game console. Customization is no longer simply a secondary option in games but almost a requirement to play certain games.

Previously users could customize only basic character attributes (i.e. name, dimensions, permanent skill levels). Yet today XMG’s Customization Engine enables “deep” customization and the continuous ability to upgrade. An example of deep customization is allowing users in a racing game such as Drag Racer, dubbed the most customizable application on the app store, (http://www.xmgstudio.com/?page_id=393 ), to add a wide variety of after-market car parts (engine, fly wheel, tires, gear ratios, design, and much more) to enhance the game performance as well as personalization of the look of the vehicle. This also increases the realism of the game which is a key requirement in video games today. As users customize they begin to develop an emotional investment in the game. It is this emotional investment that draws users back to the game and feeds the viral aspect. The more the user customizes their car or character, the higher the emotional investment. In the unusual instance where the user’s saved character or car data is erased, the user feels a significant loss.

XMG Studio Supports Local Game Development Community

17.05.2010 — XMG Studio continues to support the local game development community with a collaboration with the University of Waterloo and its DAC 304 course – Designing Computer Simulations and Games for Learning.

The course was project-based where interdisciplinary student teams design and prototype a computer simulation or game for learning using a 3-dimensional game engine. Projects address real world education challenges proposed by clients including XMG Studio and University of Waterloo faculty or staff members.

XMG provided game engine software, assistance with game design and development support to the student teams.

“We believe that it is important to support young game developers of the future and to give back to the game development community. We expect to continue this type of collaboration with additional universities in the future,” said founder, Ray Sharma.

XMG Studio has also been active in the local Augmented Reality community by hosting and speaking at the ARTO Meetup Group as well as the recent AR Dev Camp held at OCAD. XMG expects to continue to work with local universities in the burgeoning area of Augmented Reality.
